Privacy Policy
This policy explains what iRecipes collects, why we collect it, and the choices you have.
1. Who we are
iRecipes (“iRecipes”, “we”, “us”) provides the iRecipes iPhone app and the website at irecipes.online. We are the controller responsible for the personal data described in this policy.
You can reach us at any time at support@irecipes.online, including for any question about this policy or to exercise the rights described in section 12.
2. Scope of this policy
This policy covers:
- the iRecipes mobile app and its share extension,
- this website, including the feedback form, and
- any support conversation you have with us.
“Personal data” means any information that relates to an identified or identifiable person — for example a name, an email address or an IP address.
3. Information we collect
What you give us
- Profile details. If you tell us your name, dietary preferences, cooking habits or goals during onboarding, we store them with your app profile so recommendations can be tailored. These answers are optional.
- Recipe content. The recipes you import, edit or create by hand, including titles, ingredients, steps, servings, notes and cover images.
- Imported material. When you import, we process the link you shared, the page or video it points to, or the photo or screenshot you selected, so we can extract a recipe.
- Feedback. If you use the feedback form on this website, we receive the name, email address, topic and message you submit.
- Support messages. Anything you send us by email or through the app’s support entry points.
What is created when you use the app
- Library data. Your cookbooks, favorites, meal plan, grocery list and cooking progress.
- Usage and diagnostics. Crash reports and basic technical events (app version, device model, operating system, language) that help us find and fix problems.
- Purchase information. If you subscribe, Apple tells us whether an active subscription exists. We never receive your full payment card details.
What this website collects
- Server logs. IP address, date and time of the request, the page requested, the HTTP status code, the amount of data transferred, the referring page, and your browser, operating system and language. We keep these logs for up to 14 days to keep the site stable and secure.
- Feedback form data as described above.
No account required. You can use iRecipes without signing up. Your library is stored on your device; data leaves your device only to import a recipe, to back up or sync a feature you switch on, or when you contact us.
4. How we use information
- To import recipes and return a structured result to your library.
- To store, organize, search and display your recipes, cookbooks, meal plan and grocery list.
- To run the features you ask for, such as nutrition estimates, step-by-step cooking and reminders.
- To answer your feedback, support requests and questions.
- To keep the app and website working, safe and free of abuse.
- To understand in aggregate which features are used, so we can improve them. We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use your recipe content for advertising.
- To manage subscriptions and comply with legal obligations.
We do not use your information for automated decision-making that produces legal or similarly significant effects.
5. Legal bases
Where the EU or UK GDPR applies, we rely on the following legal bases:
- Contract (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR) — to provide the app and the features you request, and to process your subscription.
- Consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR) — for optional profile details such as dietary preferences, and for anything else we ask permission for first. You can withdraw consent at any time.
- Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) — to answer your messages, to keep our services secure and functional, and to improve our product with aggregated usage information.
- Legal obligation (Art. 6(1)(c) GDPR) — for accounting, tax and other records we are required to keep.
6. Importing and AI processing
When you share a link or a photo with iRecipes, the app sends that material to our import service. The service fetches the page or reads the image and extracts the recipe title, ingredients, steps, times, servings and nutrition. In some cases an AI model is used to structure messy content, such as a long caption or a photo of a cookbook page.
- We send only what is needed to produce the recipe — the URL, the page content, or the image you selected.
- Imported material is processed to create your recipe and is not used to train AI models or to build advertising profiles.
- You can review and correct every imported recipe before saving it, and delete it afterwards.
7. Sharing and service providers
We share personal data only with providers that help us run iRecipes, and only for the purposes below. Each provider is bound by a contract that limits what it may do with the data.
- Apple — app distribution, in-app purchases, subscription management and crash reports.
- Cloud hosting and content delivery (Cloudflare) — hosting the import service and this website.
- Database and file storage providers — storing your recipes, covers and the app’s server-side records.
- Backend and analytics platforms (Google Firebase) — authentication where used, diagnostics and aggregate metrics.
- AI model providers — processing the specific content needed to extract a recipe, as described in section 6.
- Form processing — delivering the feedback you submit through this website.
We may also disclose data if we are legally required to, if it is necessary to protect the rights and safety of our users, or as part of a merger or acquisition — in which case we will tell you before your data becomes subject to a different policy.
We do not sell your personal data.
8. Cookies on this website
This website keeps cookies and local storage to a minimum. We use them only where necessary — for example to remember your language and to keep the site secure. We do not run third-party advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. You can clear or block cookies in your browser settings; the site will keep working.
9. How long we keep data
- Recipe content and library data are kept while you use the app, and are deleted when you delete them or remove the app.
- Feedback and support messages are kept for up to 24 months so we can follow up and spot recurring issues.
- Server logs are kept for up to 14 days.
- Subscription and billing records are kept for as long as tax and accounting law requires.
Where we no longer need data but are not allowed to delete it, we restrict processing: the data is locked and used for nothing else.
10. International transfers
Some of our providers are located outside the EEA, mainly in the United States. When we transfer personal data there we rely on an adequacy decision of the European Commission where one exists, or on the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses together with additional safeguards where required.
11. Security
Data is transmitted over encrypted connections (TLS), access to production systems is restricted, and credentials are stored as secrets rather than in code. No system is perfectly secure, so we also limit what we collect in the first place. If a breach ever affects you, we will notify you and the relevant authority as required by law.
12. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- access the personal data we hold about you,
- have inaccurate data corrected,
- have your data deleted,
- restrict or object to processing,
- receive your data in a portable format,
- withdraw consent you previously gave, and
- lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
Email support@irecipes.online to make a request. We answer within 30 days. You can delete your recipes and library data directly in the app at any time.
If you are in California, you also have the right to know what categories of personal information we collect and to opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information — we do neither.
13. Children
iRecipes is not directed at children under 13 (or under 16 where local law sets that age), and we do not knowingly collect their personal data. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, email us and we will delete it.
14. Changes to this policy
We update this policy when our app or the law changes. The date at the top always shows the current version, and for significant changes we will tell you in the app or by email before they take effect.
15. Contact us
